Commission an Original oil painting
Sarah Margaret Gibson accepts a limited number of bespoke painting commissions each year, including oil portraits, bird paintings and still lifes.
Trained in Florence in the tradition of classical realist painting, Sarah creates carefully observed, highly finished oil paintings for private collectors in the United Kingdom, the United States and internationally. She works from her studio on the west coast of Scotland, welcoming clients and sitters from around the world.
portrait Commissions
Sarah accepts a select number of portrait commissions each year for private collectors, families and institutions.
Whenever possible, her portraits are painted at least partly from life. This allows Sarah to observe the subtle shifts of colour, light and expression that give a painted portrait its sense of presence and individuality.
Clients are welcome to travel to Sarah’s studio at Ayrshire Atelier of Fine Art in Largs, on the west coast of Scotland. Previous portrait clients have travelled internationally for sittings, including from the United States. Depending upon the nature of the commission and the sitter’s location, Sarah may also travel within the UK or internationally.
Portrait commissions begin at £2,100, with the final price depending upon the size and complexity of the painting, the number of sitters and any necessary travel.

Still Lifes & Birds
Sarah also accepts commissions for her highly detailed bird paintings and still lifes, working with collectors in the UK, the United States and internationally.
A bird commission can be created as an individual portrait or as part of a pair or collection of paintings designed especially for your home. Sarah is happy to discuss particular species, flowers, fruits, objects, colour palettes and other elements that can make the finished painting personal to you and sympathetic to the space in which it will hang.
These commissions are particularly popular and Sarah accepts only a limited number at a time.
Bird and still-life commissions begin at £550, with prices varying according to the size and complexity of the painting.
